Do I need a website if I already have Instagram?

2026-08-19 · 2 min read

We sell websites, so treat this as biased and read it anyway. Instagram does several things better than any website will. It also cannot do two things at all, and both of them cost you customers.

Instagram is rented ground

The account is not yours. Reach changes without warning, and accounts get restricted for reasons nobody explains. Businesses that lost an account overnight lost their whole client list with it.

A website is the one address nobody can take away from you.

What Instagram cannot do

It cannot put you in Google. Somebody searching "barber near me" is never shown your Instagram grid — they are shown a map and websites.

And it cannot take a booking while you are working. Every appointment goes through a direct message you answer by hand, usually late in the evening.

What a website cannot do

It cannot build a following, it cannot show what you did this morning, and nobody visits it for fun. Instagram does that far better, and dropping it would be a mistake.

The two are not competing. They do different jobs.

The honest answer is both, in this order

A simple site first, so you exist in search and can take bookings without typing. Instagram second, as the place people watch you between visits.

If you can only do one thing this month, do the one that keeps working while you are with a client.

The cheapest version that works

One page: who you are, what you do, prices, hours, a call button, a booking form and a link to your Instagram. That is genuinely all of it.

It costs from €390 and takes about a week. Anyone quoting far more for exactly that is selling you pages you will never use.
